On our latest Fretboard Journal Live, we talk to Nels Cline and Julian Lage. These two giants of guitar are no strangers to our magazine: Lage was featured in The Fretboard Journal #17 (he also performed at our Wintergrass 2014 stage with Chris Eldridge) and Nels Cline was featured in our Wilco cover story in the FJ #15 (we also capture this video of him playing his 1959 Jazzmaster).

In this hour long interview, we hear about how the pair met (via Jim Hall), the gear they’re using (for Lage, his Manzer archtop; for Nels, a Gibson Barney Kessel), the improvisation process and much more. We also get to hear three breathtaking tunes from their debut album, Room. It’s a great hour with two of our favorite musicians.
