We’re proud to premiere “Unless“ by one of our favorite “new” groups, Hawktail. (You may know their previous incarnation, Haas Kowert Tice. They brought on mandolinist Dominick Leslie and changed their name). “Unless” is the title track to their forthcoming album, due out May 11, 2018.
The evolution of the making of this album has been an interesting one: first tracking as the original trio; next with guests Sam Bush on mandolin and Roy “Futureman” Wooten on percussion; and now, as a quartet, with the addition of Dominick. “Those [earlier] sessions were a blast, and it was an honor and a privilege to make music with them. But it made us realize that if we were going to move forward as a band, we needed a permanent fourth member who could supply a rhythmic backbone like they did, as well as balance out the bow/plectrum equation,” guitarist Jordan Tice says. “That’s when we asked Dominick to join the band and recorded this final iteration of the album.”
Throughout the record Tice used his go-to “Velvet Joel” Collings DA1, as well as Chris Eldridge’s 1954 D-28 “Uncle Johnny,” and a Recording King guitar (which Brittany also plays on two tracks).
