On a recent tour, acclaimed singer-songwriter James McMurtry stopped by the Fretboard Journal offices to play his tune “Saint Mary of the Woods.” McMurtry brought his Guild GF-30 guitar with him, one of a few that he has. “I’ve always liked [Guilds]. I like these GF-30s for stage performance,” he said. “They work well with the Sunrise [pickup]. Laminated neck … they don’t move around when you tune them, you can put any kind of whack tuning you want on them.”
McMurtry borrowed a G7th capo we had around the offices for this tune. We were all impressed by the finished results and by his great guitar technique.
