Great Martins: 1949 D-28 with the Sangster Family

The Sangster clan is a veritable Seattle music scene institution: Jim plays with the Young Fresh Fellows, the Minus 5, the Tripwires and other bands; Johnny runs Crackle & Pop! recording studio and is a celebrated audio engineer and guitarist. In this FJ video, Jim, Johnny and Johnny’s son Malcom Sangster reflect on the 1949 Martin D-28 that was used by John Sangster, the family patriarch.

John was a prolific musician and owned several instruments but “he was a one guitar guy after he got this guitar… it was his thing,” says Jim Sangster.

Gathering together at Crackle & Pop, the Sangsters talk about their heirloom Martin and perform a lovely take on “Sally Goodin’.”
