Here’s an interesting website about the efforts of Ajay Kapur, Ari Lazier, Phil Davidson, R. Scott Wilson and Perry Cook to come up with an electronic contoller that, when attached to a sitar, “converts human musical gestures to binary code which machines can comprehend. These signals can then be used to trigger real-time sound and graphics.”-MJS (via Make Magazine Blog!)

Here’s a nice article about Paracho, the Mexican town where nearly everyone is a luthier. I previously posted about Paracho here.-MJS

We all get a little bit snobbish about tonewoods, so it’s nice to be reminded from time to time that you can make a working instrument out of just about anything. Still, I bet it would have sounded better if it were made from Brazilian cardboard.-MJS (Thanks, Gary!)

Here’s a good article about sustainble yield Sitka spruce from the Anchorage Daily News. Bob Taylor has some interesting comments on the subject.-MJS

This article is a couple of years old, but it tells an interesting story of how Kenny Hill, a builder from California, tried to have guitars made in Paracho, Mexico. If you haven’t heard about Paracho, it’s a town where just about everyone is a luthier. My friend Teja Gerken went there in 1989 to study guitar making. Here’s a nice photo essay from his time there.-MJS (Photo courtesy of Teja Gerken)
