About the FJ

Our goal is to provide serious guitarists and music fans information they can’t find in any other publication or online. In each 128-page keepsake issue, we search the world for fascinating stories, great players and luthiers. We cover all genres, acoustics and electrics, everything and anything that seems interesting to our tribe of readers.

The magazine was founded in 2005 by two music and gear lovers, Jason Verlinde and Michael John Simmons. Our subscriber-supported format allows us to run a minimum of advertising in each issue and ensure that each issue has over 100 pages of pure editorial. Each edition is basically a coffee table book that comes out four times a year, with production standards unrivaled by any other magazine today. In effect, it’s a “guitar magazine for grownups.”

Though our core produce remains our paper edition, in 2010 and beyond our brand will be expanding to new platforms. As we approach our twentieth issue of the Journal, we’ll be re-launching our website, offering interactive experiences, online communities and in-person events for our unique readers.  This little corner of the music world is exciting and full of new discoveries…we can’t wait to share it with you. And if you haven’t subscribed yet, we hope you will.
