The Fretboard Journal Winter 2007 issue in Stores Now!
November 23rd, 2007
We’re pleased to announce that the Winter 2007 issue of the Fretboard Journal is in music and book stores everywhere. And it may very well be our best issue to date. Features include: a lengthy cover story on jazz guitarist John Scofield (along with plenty of great “guitar porn” shots of his Ibanez and related gear); an interview with Norman and Nancy Blake; an interview with the Byrds’ Roger McGuinn; a look at the guitar designs of acclaimed dealer George Gruhn; a peek inside the workshop of Nashville luthier Manuel Delgado; and a visit to 78 collector Joe Bussard. If you are a subscriber, you should already have your copy. If you aren’t a subscriber, or you just want another copy, you can find the new issue on newsstands and in guitar stores everywhere right now.

As I enjoy your publication for the exotic and inspired, that “glimpse behind the curtain”, imagine my amazement to see my long neglected Hohner “Gruhn design” guitar featured on page 77. It has now moved into a more visible, and respected place in the lineup and I’d be curious to know more about it, as I’ve never seen one anywhere else before. Ever.
Makes the guitar world seem bigger and smaller at the same time.

I actually picked up a Hohner Gruhn on Craig’s List for $100 recently in perfect condition. My original intent was to have an inexpensive but well playing “campfire” guitar that I wouldn’t worry about getting nicked up. However, I just didn’t have the heart to take it to the campfire, so I sold it to a local musician who now favors it over his $2000 Taylor. After reading the article, add it to my extremely long list of “should have held on to that one.”

Yeah Baby!…Yeah! Another great issue! I enjoyed ALL the articles (I read every word of every issue), but especially appreciated the Aero Ukulele and Bear Creak pieces, just because I’m primarily a ukulele player.
You guys ROCK!!!!

What can I say? I’ve been a subscriber since David Grisman’s smiling face caused me to grab #1 off the rack down in Santa Fe. Great articles, fabulous photography and, pax Jason Verlinde, I even like the advertising (And why not? Even more great photos of gorgeous instruments.). Just delightful in every way.
Thanks for a job very well done!

Great magazine. It’s literally a magazine that I read every word cover to cover.

I have been nursing this issue (like every issue) so that it doesn’t feel like it is so long between great issues….I guess I will just need to read it again…

I really liked the article about Marc Shoenberger’s version of the Aero-Uke. However it would have been nice if there had been a picture of the top of Marc’s version to compare with the picture of the Harmony original.
Oh and the Scofield interview is worth the price of of admission by itself. Great issue.

I appreciate the attention given to Gruhn…and Delgado…who lives on my street.
Its the photographs that really bring your magazine to life.

At the risk of being labeled something worse than “persistent,” I’d like to call attention to one of the infrequent ads in the winter 2007 edition, on page 119. The Luthiers’ Cruise to Alaska this summer is for guitar players, collectors and builders — a huge overlap with FJ’s readership. Among the bewildering options for the guitar nut in your life, from the Montreal Guitar Show to SXSW, don’t lose sight of this absolutely unique opportunity!
