2006 Newport Guitar Festival: Steve Spodaryk
August 9th, 2006
Steve Spodaryk draws his inspiration from the Stauffer-style guitars C.F. Martin made back in the 1830s and 1840s. Unlike the vintage guitars, which were built for gut strings, Spodaryk’s instruments can be played with steel strings. They have a light, delicate tone but are surprisingly loud. The maple Presentation looks like it has an ivory fretboard, but it’s really made out of Linen Micarta, a synthetic material. In a nice touch, Spodaryk makes his own elegant coffin-style cases out of walnut.-MJS
